Apple lauches new browser for Mac OS X - Safari!

    Apple's Steve Jobs claims the new browser is 3 times faster than the opposition. The new browser uses khtml codebase used in the Konqueror KDE browser. Beta versions of the browser are available now.

Which? ends its Web Trader scheme - 06 Jan 2003

    At the end of January 2003 the Consumer Association will end its Which? Web Trader scheme as its costing too much to run.

    The scheme was set up in 1999 to make online shopping should be easy and safe. Enforcing a code of practice for UK-based web sites, it encouraged the highest standards among online traders to ensure consumers were treated fairly when shopping online. The scheme was free and independent.

Yahoo to acquire Inktomi for £146 million - 23 Dec 2002

    Terry Semel, Yahoo Chairman and CEO announced in a prepared statement that the acquisition was intended to provide its users with the best search solutions on the web.

    With the cash purchase of Inktomi at $1.65 per share likely to be finalised in the first quarter of 2003. When we start to see Inktomi results on Yahoo is unclear. Its seems Yahoo is distancing itself from Google, who it only recently resigned with for search results. The pressure will certainly be on search engine rivals such as Lycos.
