Apple launches new browser for Mac OS X - Safari!

Apple's Steve Jobs claims the new browser is 3 times faster than the opposition. The new browser uses khtml codebase used in the Konqueror KDE browser. Beta versions of the browser are available now.

More importantly for search engine optimisation people, if your looking for the new browser in your logs, it'll look something like this:

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/48 (like Gecko) Safari/48
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/48 (like Gecko) Safari/48

A new feature on the browser is the ability to search with Google direct from the browser itself, so that's even more traffic coming from Google then! It doesn't replicate all the features of the Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer though, no ability to check the Page Rank of your site for instance.

When viewing web sites the browser has a few CSS positioning problems, but all in all its pretty good and definitely an improvement on what is available for Mac OS X.
